Though hospitalisations due to Covid are lower compared to the previous waves of the pandemic, the number of infections have surged significantly across the country. According to the latest data shared by the government on Saturday, 2,994 new Covid cases were recorded in the country on Saturday and nine fatalities in the past 24 hours were confirmed – two each from Kerala, Karnataka, Delhi and Punjab and one from Gujarat.

With the fresh infections, India’s Covid tally stands at 4.47 crore (4,47,18,781). The death count climbed to 5,30,876, including the nine deaths. The number of active cases increased to 16,354, according to the health ministry data. At 16,354, the active cases comprise 0.04% of the total infections. The national Covid recovery rate stands at 98.77%, according to the health ministry website. The daily positivity rate was recorded at 2.09% and weekly positivity at 2.03%.
